Hunger Games - Sunrise on the Reaping - [6/10]

This book isn’t exceptionally special or outstanding, which is a shame as the Hunger Games series was exactly that, so captivating and innovative. ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ honestly just felt like a cash grab. It wasn’t bad per say, it was just bland, lacked depth and didn’t really do anything new. It felt like it was written towards a younger audience, as it lacked a lot of detail and setup in the story, to the point where I didn’t care when a character died, or when he is crooning over missing his love. As a reader, I don’t see why he loves her so much, other than him saying ‘I love her’. It’s like im being told the emotions rather than feeling it. Also skims over the best part of the book, the actual Hunger Games. 20 people die and you don’t hear anything of it. Also, wtf is his obsession with songs? Every chapter has someone singing a song. This book does its job to entertain, and I was interested throughout, but it’s annoying because you know it could be so much better. This is a Maccas meal of a book, you’ll eat it, cheap easy and accessible, but you finish it not satisfied because you know that a burger could be so much better than that.
