Where the Crowdads Sing - [9/10]

A very powerful book. Powerful and empowering. A unique story that kept me engaged throughout, the apcing was done really well where nothing in the story felt forced or dragged on. I ripped through the second half of the book in a day, I was locked in and really wanted to see what happens. A lot of messaging and strong themes throughout, I really liked the whole theme of her loneliness and her abnormalities in her relationships with others. I also really liked the fact that everyone thought she was a dumb marsh girl, but is smarter than all of them. I don’t really have many unique opinions on the book or much to say, its just a solid story that is like a unique case study on a resilient but pure human. (I like the idea also of how she is one with the marsh and the animal motif throughout, and how she responds to a threat in an animalistic way, kill or be killed).

  I'll make it clear that I may be biased in this as I've never had a proper relationship or fallen in love before, but this was a very frustrating story. I think it was written beautifully, the emotions evoked and the imagery / feelings that were described were great, but the actual plot and the characters decisions were silly to me. I'm taking a very logical approach to a romance novel, but I feel like there was a lot of bullshit that could be sorted out with just a couple of sentences. The ending was also so unsatisfying, and yes, I fully understand that this book is about life, and life doesn't have a happy ending and everything doesn't turn out how we want to etc... but I go to a book or a story to escape that for a bit, not to be reminded of it. That could be the intention of this book, or even the genre which I am fairly new to. IT - [10/10]

This is the only book that made me feel actually scared turning it's pages. I literally turned a page and read a line somewhere in the book and gasped. I'm not kidding. This book is very, very long, Stephen King gets in a habit of giving the backstory of every little thing in the story. However, if you have the patience and the effort to read (which I definitely do), you will find a creepy, terrifying, interesting and just overall great story. The book shows an even more evil side to Pennywise that the movie seems to not capture, more than just a jump-scare, he strikes psychological fear. This is one of King's best works. The Godfather - [15/10]

This book is just simply amazing to me. From start to finish it presents a beautifully crafted story that is just flawless. I loved the insight of the culture of the mafia and the respect that they have for everyone and the formalities they follow, the incredibly intricate characters and relationships they have, the Shakespearean storytelling and conflicts that they face. There is so much in this book that can not be fully captured by the movie. The section of Michael Corleone in Italy, roaming and living his life and then falling in love with Apollonia, that little section is probably up there with my favourite scenes from a book ever.
